Mr. Chester "Chet" Schmidt, 86, of Parksville, SC, entered into rest on Friday May 28th, 2010 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Herma (Steffens) Schmidt.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Keely, his father, Peter Schmidt, sister, Alma Becker, brother, Vernon Schmidt, nieces, Julie Sides, Connie Norcross, and nephew, Phil Schmidt, Jr.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived  by his sisters, Margaret Peters, Doris Schmidt, both of California, brother, Phil Schmidt and his wife Paula, of  Florida; brother-in-law, Eugene Sides and his wife Annegret Sides, nephews, Daniel Sides and his wife Kathy,  Michael Sides and his wife Shannon, Kevin Sides and his wife Debbie Sides, nieces Lisa Snyder and her husband Jake, and  numerous of nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany.

 

Chet was born in California. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War he served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps 21 years. After retirement in 1965 he worked 3 years in Saint Louis, Missouri. From 1968 until retirement in 1986 he worked in Washington D.C. and Fort. Meade, Maryland as a Chief, Management Information  Systems  Division. U.S. Army Troop Support Agency for 17 ½ yrs.  He then moved to Parksville, South Carolina in 1987.

 

Chet was member of the Fleet Reserve Association in Saint Louis, Missouri, The American Legion Post 63 and the Deutsche Freundschafts club in Augusta, Georgia.

 

Special thanks are given to the Eisenhower Oncology and Cardiology Department and Regency Hospice of Aiken, South Carolina, Cheri Hicks, Susan Baker and Frieda Thomas.

 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Aiken, SC, 29801.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina with Pastor Dr. Donald A. Copland from Parksville, South Carolina officiating.

 

South Carolina Cremation & Burial Society honored providers of Veterans Funeral Care is the assisting the family.
