Robert Trevor Mayes
Mr. Robert "Bob" Trevor Mayes, 62, of Columbia, died Friday, January 8, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of John Mayes and the late June Elizabeth Whitehead Mayes. He was a loyal employee of Benjamin Moore Paint Company for twenty five years. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Forrestal and received a Letter of Commendation for his rescuing efforts on board a burning ship. He worked as fireman in Columbia and Petersburg, VA for seven years.
Bob decorated the world nicely and will be well missed. He was the gentlest soul God had graced the Earth with.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Jean Cooper Mayes, sisters, Patricia G. Winsor, Rebecca S. Mayes, Carla Jean Jewel, brother, Phillip Wayne Mayes.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. South Carolina Cremation & Burial Society is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Tri County, 166 Stoneridge Dr, Ste 100 Columbia, SC 29210.
